In Case You Missed It: Vionnet

Vionnet's Fall 2011 collection was a well rounded collection of sophisticated and sexy dresses that played with prints beautifully. This collection showed in during Paris fashion week and went a bit off the path of what most of the designers were doing in trends in Paris. Instead of sticking to a monotone or black color palette, Vionnet chose to play with rich colors, blocking them and playing up on the prints of the fabric. The prints in this collection where some of the more interesting ones I have seen. Vionnet allowed the prints and textures in the fabric to become part of the design, strategically putting the prints in certain directions to control the eye in different directions of the body. For the most part the fabric in this collection was very light and in some cases see through, this peek a boo fabric worked well with the overall feel of this sexy collection of clothing. There were some bits of lush furs and quilted prints that were interesting but no big standouts for me in this collection which doesn't matter anyway because as a whole Vionnet showed a beautifully thought out collection.

Trend Report: A Bohemian Girls Survival Kit.

One of the trends Spring 2012 will more than likely have to offer is a more bohemian type feel. You're starting to see peeks of it here and there this Spring but its not a full blown trend yet. So what the heck do you do when you want to attempt a bohemian look  but not look like some troll from under a bridge?

In your bohemian suvival kit you will need to following:

  • Bangles-  and lots of them dang it! You're no wuss.
  • A maxi length dress or skirt- MUST BE of a flowing light material. If you really want to be bad ass get one in an ethnic inspired print.
  • A nice woven or leather bag - Bohemian chicks don't do synthetics. Though smaller bags are in style you can totally get away with a big bag because as a woman I know that you just have stuff to carry.
  • A nice sandal- Gladiator flats are fine but if you really want to stay on tend find yourself a wedge or a platform sandal.
  • A light jacket- Whether it is a nice denim or boyfriends long sleeved shirt you can take and roll the sleeves up, cardigan, etc. Its all about layering when you're going boho so having the ability to change your look up on a whim is kind of important.
  • Other accessories: Necklaces -play with them go from a simple long one or layer a few together or find a really nice statement necklace. Scarves are good too, Just in case you get cold going to a rally or something. Go to the store or even better a market that sells jewelry and find some nice rings with interesting patterns and stones. Hats aren't for everyone but large brim, floppy hats will be in next Spring so stack up on a few now. Play with Belts as well larger belts seem to be on trend again, just avoid unnecessary shiny belts. Bohemian style is all about keeping it natural.

That pretty much covers the basics, of course personal style is the most important thing for you to do so wear what makes you comfortable, these are just the basics. Best of luck my bohemian loving friend.

In Case You Missed It: Christophe Lemaire

Christophe Lemaire's collection that showed during Paris' fashion week covered simplistic draping with a masculine undertone. Volume was the main stay in this small collection but the large volume of fabric didn't overwhelm the model's body the volume was strategically placed to gently draw your eye in but not focus it there. This collection is one of the few ready to wear collection that is truly ready to wear straight off the runway; even the accessories and shoes flowed as one with the garments creating a lovely and harmonious look. Chrisophe Lemaire's collection is that of chic simplicity and I look forward to seeing a few piece from this collection in an editorial soon.

MAXImize your summer wardrobe

Even though much of the east cost is either still cold or being rained on, I am still getting myself ready for the Spring and Summer season. This year and next Spring's big trends will be the maxi length dress and skirt. Maxi's haven't really been in fashion in a good 5 or so years so as the fashion cycle is taking another turn we're back to it. This isn't a bad trend at all, I mean all women can wear a maxi length and they're so much fun to wear because of their level of comfort. I'm seeing a lot of floral prints and horizontal stripes which is great but if you are a bit on the curvy side you might want to avoid the horizontal stripe. Here are some of my favorite finds.

Trend Report: Pantone your wardrobe Fall 2011

Today's hot Pantone color for Fall 2011 is a deep teal. I saw this rich color pop up quite a few times during fashion week and what better way to be ahead of the game than to start racking up your color palette for Fall 2011?

Variations of deep teal colors were found all over the runway for Fall 2011's season.  Even though this color is rich enough to stand on its on, designer's played with this color by either blocking it with a similar color but of a different shade or using it only as a small accessory. Either way take this lovely hue into consideration when you're putting together your fall wardrobe.
