Fashion As Art: Viktor & Rolf

With the recent opening exhibitions of designers such as Alexander McQueen and Dior,  It had me thinking that maybe the often closed off art world is starting to acknowledge fashion as a legitimate form of art. With that being said I decided to take some time in order to find fashion pieces that I would consider a works of art.

My first finding was from  Viktor & Rolf's Spring 2010 collection.  If you visit style.com a shilouette of one of their notable pieces is there as part of their revamped header on their homepage. This  particular photo shoot of some of Victor & Rolf's pieces was shot for Dazed & Confused magazine last year. Whenever I see designers do something with garments that seemed impossible before I want to jump on my couch like Tom Cruise on Oprah. Its just beautiful to see fabrics being manipulated and played with the way a painter would do with brush strokes. The reasoning behind these cut dresses? Like everything else in the world market they had to make changed in order to cut costs, sometimes wonderful creativity comes from necessity. Have you seen a fashion garment that you would consider to be art? Whether its something you made or something you saw and liked. Email me at hautecoutureandwhiskey@gmail.com, I will feature it on a post and of course give you all the credit and cupcakes for it.
