Cindy Crawford On Modeling In Modern Times

Via Juicefriends.com

Its really much adieu about nothing and just the opinion of one person but Cindy's thought about models in fashion has me thinking about how much I kind of hate celebs putting their fingers into too many cookie jars. Here's what she said to Parade Magazine according to the New York Post
Even Cindy Crawford feels it's hard to measure up to the ideal for women in the celebrity world. She tells Parade.com: "I just saw the Covergirl commercial with Taylor Swift and I thought, 'Wow, it is so hard for models to get a job these days.' You have to sing and act, too. There doesn't seem to be as much work specifically just for models."

Now as a disclaimer I am not bashing Taylor Swift and am talking about celebrities on a general basis so don't send dead fish on my front door step. I know everything is a business and in order for you to be a successful star is to brand yourself and often but has anyone noticed that musicians and actors put their stamp on everything?

One of the original triple threats
It only in recent decades that celebs have branded themselves into other things which was fine the first 2 times but everyone is doing it and frankly its annoying. I honestly don't need to see an actor singing with a line of clothing out and in my magazine ads advertising some product I don't really want to begin with. Stick to what you know people! There have been very few people in the history of entertainment that have been true triple threats, all the rest of you are mediocre at best, even at your own day job.

But nothing boils me over more than a celebrity with a fashion line. Maybe I am sensitive because I spent 4 years of my life in fashion school literally putting my blood, sweat, and tears into fashion, I will admit that but when you work as hard as fashion design students do its a bit of a slap to the face when some random celeb who can barely dress themselves magically becomes this awesome designer.

Believe it or not it takes a long time to master the skill of draping and technical design so its a little hard to believe that in between movies and an album a celeb has time to learn how to do it. What do they do? They hire an unknown, bright eyed  and bushy tailed designer probably hoping that if they ghost design for a celeb they will eventually be able to branch out on their own. 99% of the time that really doesn't happen and of course the celeb in their own little world of awesomeness never publically thanks the designer for all the work they've done. Could you imagine working your ass off on something for no one to even recognize it? and your name not even be associated with it?

In the modeling world its a different monster because it seems like only the US fashion market glorify celebs on the cover of fashion magazines, everyone else seems to have shifted back to models which is a huge relief to me. (Seriously I can only look at Beyonce for so long.)I miss picking up a magazine because I really love the actual fashion on the cover, not because some actor is on it. The business of fashion has become less and less about fashion and more about money and numbers. Which sucks for people who love this industry in its purest form. But who knows maybe one day the general audience will realize that its not cool to have a Miley Syrus album, book, shirt, workout video, and magazine. over saturation of a market can backfire quite quickly as audiences are fickle and maybe then entertainers will go back to their respective corner. Until then:

Viva la model and real fashion!
